Daily Fit Tip: Fill up on folic
We all know that pregnant women need folic acid. But did you know that moms-to-be need to start getting folic acid at least a full year before getting pregnant?
It's true, according to CNN's Dr. Gupta blog. Taking folic acid at least a year before you get pregnant can slash your risk of giving birth to a baby with birth defects, cerebral palsy, physical disabilities and mental retardation.
And you know what that means -- you need to be prepared. If you plan on starting a family in the next year or two (or more!) consider taking folic acid regularly, starting now. Of course, be sure to discuss with your doctor first, as always.
