Kickboxing in preschool?

Yes! Yes! Kickboxing in preschool! Last week, I had a little visit with my daughter's preschool class; I brought in a child-sized heavy bag and some (adult-size) gloves. Since I'm the Fitzness trainer Mommy, and kickboxing is one of the most fun things I do and teach ... we thought it would be great to share the fun with her buddies.
We spent the first few minutes chatting about being healthy. Choosing healthy foods and exercising was easy to discuss with these little ones. They were desperate to tell me about their favorite fruits and the fun things they like to do. In fact, I heard in great detail about each child's favorite bike, scooter or jump rope. This of course, was fun to for me. We talked sports too, and I addressed kickboxing as such.
First rule was that the children should never hit a friend or family member. Kickboxing is for heavy bags only! Then my children demonstrated their super duper kickboxing skills. That got the group excited, and then they all got a chance to try it out . It was so sweet to see their different personalities shine through with this simple task. Some raced towards the gloves and hit the bag as much as they could. Some of the children were tremendously shy and barely breezed the bag when it was their turn. I loved them all, and enjoyed our fun day of exercise.
I'm always grateful for the opportunity to teach and discuss fitness with the little ones. I hope that my children's generation will never need personal trainers or crazy diets. I'd love to know that they grew up with healthy eating habits and a passion for exercise. Kickboxing in preschool; just one more step towards a long healthy life.
