Ditch the doughnuts, shed some pounds
About 10 years ago, I stopped drinking soda. I lost seven pounds. The soda eventually crept back into my diet. One year ago, I stopped drinking it again. I ditched sweets too. I lost 15 pounds. Is there one habit you can eliminate from your diet? A candy dish on your desk you could trash? A morning stop for doughnuts you could do without? A late-night dish of ice cream you could trade for a bowl of fresh fruit? Surely, there's something you can get rid of. Surely, you'll see results when you do.
Fitness magazine asks a few women in their May 2008 issue about small changes they've made in their lives that delivered great gains. One women nixed alcohol for one month. Social drinking was her diet downfall. She'd end up having a dozen beers while mixing with friends, and it always led to snacking on junk food. While this gal says she won't give up alcohol for good, she does plan to minimize her intake, for the sake of her health.
Another woman gave up pigging out and learned to eat in moderation. She began tracking what she ate in a journal and became more aware of how much she was wolfing down.
Making a small change doesn't always mean giving something up. Adding a healthy practice to your diet works too. One other woman added more fiber to her meals. Whole grains, apples, high-fiber veggies, and water keep her from feeling hungry and overeating. She now has more energy, is burning off some extra weight, and has minimized bloating.
What small change can you make? What small changes have you already made?

Mochas were my downfall....I had lost a significant amount of weight and then started working with a guy who liked mochas as much as I did and between the two of us, we started having them at least once a day. Fortunately for me I was pretty tuned into my diet and physique and cut WAAAY back when I started noticing the scale climbing. Now I have a non-fat mocha about 4-6 times a year. I still love them, but they are my weakness so I find it best to make them a special treat. I love plain coffee too and it has much less calories so that is my ususal morning drink.
