Fitness friends can help you stay motivated
Thinking of summer already? If so, you may also be thinking of starting a workout program. Not a bad idea at all, whatever the season happens to be. But, starting a workout is one thing -- sticking with it is something altogether different!! This is why you may want to avoid going at it alone.
Enlisting the help of a good personal trainer (good being the operative word) is one of the best ways to keep you going. Not only will a trainer make sure that you are performing exercises correctly and charting your progress, but they'll also motivate you during those times when you're feeling less than thrilled about being at the gym. But, not everyone has the extra cash to dole out on a personal trainer, just as some people don't want to work out in a gym. For these folks, it is still possible to benefit from teamwork Try working out with a friend or two!
A workout partner can make all the difference in your workout. They will keep you honest, helping you achieve your goals by not allowing you to take shortcuts. Plus, there's nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, especially when the extra effort will lead to better and quicker results. However, when it comes to selecting a training partner, I do caution against choosing someone who will bring you down rather than boost you up. You don't need someone who spends more time talking than working out, or someone who skips workouts entirely. Also, body image is understandably a touchy topic, so don't team up with someone who will be overly critical of you and your efforts.
If you don't have any friend, family members, or co-workers who are the workout type, you can always befriend someone at the gym. Or, if you're more of an outdoor person and prefer running or walking, check online boards for running clubs in your area.
