Workplace Fitness: Start the day off right!
How many times have you overslept and started the day out in a rush (an even bigger one than usual) and the day just never seemed to recover? Or gotten out of the shower and your hair just wouldn't cooperate, leaving you starting out with a bad hair day and all the curses that go along with it for hours to come? It seems to be a fundamental truth that the way the day starts out sets the tone for how the rest of the day is going to go -- nobody is immune. Not even morning people! So start your day out right and the rest of your day should go much better -- it's like a law of physics. To that end, try these tips from Active.com for a better morning and a better day. Appeal to your senses Wake up everyday in a room filled with beautiful light, your favorite colors, flowers, scents, and music.
Stretch Alive suggests mimicking the way a cat wakes up: elongate your spine and stretch your arms and legs out, one by one. Stretching first thing as you wake up will help loosen joints, improve flexibility, and stimulate healthy circulation.
Make a positive promise to yourself Before you get started on the day take a minute to think of something positive that you can do for yourself and promise yourself you'll do it that day. It can be something small and simple, like eating lunch outside if it's nice out.
Enjoy a water massage Or, as most people call it, a hot shower. When in the shower each morning take a few moments to consciously relax and focus on positive thoughts, and to concentrate on how the pressure of the water and the heat relaxes and stimulates your muscles.
Break the fast Energize and fuel yourself by eating a high fiber breakfast that includes protein for long-lasting energy.
Make a journal entry Journaling doesn't have to be a time-consuming activity, merely taking a few moments to think of something positive and happy -- and then writing it down -- can be the perfect thing to give your day an upbeat swing.
Exercise Not only will a workout (even a short one) get your metabolism revved up and energize you for the day, but getting your workout out of the way and demonstrating to yourself that you really do put your health first will give you good vibes to start the day with.
It's okay if you're not a morning person If you're not a morning person (I know I'm not) that's okay! Don't try to force yourself to be "on" right away by trying to multitask before you've really woken up. Concentrate on one thing at a time, and give yourself enough time so you can go slowly if you need to.
