Fitness training with ESPN GameDay hosts
Last night, I spent an hour or so with the faces of college football. Now, of course these faces are no longer "in" college. But! They're the ones we turn to week after week to get the scoop on our favorite teams, athletes, and upsets. ESPN College GameDay. is coevering the Orange and Blue game, which is the University of Florida Gator Spring Scrimmage. I know...it's just a scrimmage! But...it is a big deal. A very big deal to the fans, and one of the great symbols that fall football is almost back again. Since I spend a lot of time near the University of Florida, I paid them a visit for some Celebrity Fitzness Report interviews.
When I arrived, sports analyst Kirk Herbstreit and side-line reporter Erin Andrews were working out, running up and down the bleachers in the Swamp (the Gator Stadium). Maybe they knew a fitness trainer would be popping in to check on them, but probably not. They were just wisely using their short break time to squeeze in a great workout. I was kind of sad not to have been in workout clothes myself though. It would have been fun to interview them on the go! Maybe next time they're in town we'll do that.
Kirk and Erin's time to sweat allowed me plenty of time to sit down with Desmond Howard. Desmond was soft spoken and very sweet. More humble than one would guess from a Heisman trophy winning, Super Bowl MVP. I loved it though. He had a smile plastered on his face the entire time we talked, flaunting his ridiculously perfect teeth and he shared his thoughts on fitness, football and raising fit kids.
Erin Andrews was an absolute delight, and came completely clean on her ups and downs with her weight and fitness. She travels with a team of almost all men and has had to adjust to eating with them. Big men eating like big men is not such a big deal. Small woman eating like a big man.....can become a BIG deal. She told funny stories of getting caught looking less fit than she'd like to be on camera phones. You'll learn how she addresses all of that on her future Celebrity Fitzness Report.
The few friends I told about my impending interviews with the GameDay crew begged and pleaded for me to touch Kirk Herbstreit. They wanted me to touch him, so I could then touch them at a later date. That wouldn't be very professional of me, now would it? Nonetheless. Kirk is not only a former football great himself, but he could be considered the MVP of luring the most women in to both football and ESPN. He's pretty, to say the least.
Kirk was also a genuinely thoughtful guy who works hard to stay fit. His eyes sparkled during the time we spent together, but mostly as he spoke of his wife and family. He works hard to manage a career which forces him to travel quite a lot, and a wife and four young sons back at home. He shared some great advice on making fitness happen under even the busiest circumstances.
I missed Lee Corso by a few minutes. Argh! And Chris Fowler was wicked busy. Maybe next time they visit the Gators, I'll get another chance to grill them too. In the meantime, keep your eye out over the next month for a few fantastic Celebrity Fitzness Reports featuring our friends over at ESPN.
***Kirk. This is for you! The Safe Side
