Greatest diet sucess stories: What's yours?
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Nutrition & Supplements
The editors at AOL Body combed through dozens of diet success tips at Yedda (an ask and answer site),
and found some really great advice, read the best of the best weight loss tips here. My favorite? The advice about trying Wii games. My sister has Wii at her house, and after an hour of playing Wii Tennis, my arms were actually sore. I felt ashamed for feeling the exercise burn from a video game, but recent studies have supported that Wii can help burn extra calories and help prevent weight gain. Who knew?

What really helped me keep on track for losing weight was taking vitamin supplements in addition to a daily vitamin. Taking supplements throughout the day, with meals, helped keep my weight-loss goal in mind. It was a small (healthy!) reminder to eat smart.

I you ever tried using lipotropic injections, they work great

I was taking Lupron injections for a few months and packed on 15 lbs. I could just look at food and gain weight. The day I was cleared from my doc, I started walking, which quickly turned into running. I have never run before in my life, but now suddenly at 38, it seemed like the time to start. I not only lost the 15lbs, but a few more. I weigh 118lbs and have alot of definition in my entire body. I run 2-6 miles a day 3-6 times a week, depending. I limit junk food and cut out all drinks but water. If you ask me, it takes dedication and willpower to lose weight and you just can't do it until you are finally ready to commit. Anything short of 100% will just end up in defeat.

Start playing tennis for 2-4 hours a day like I did and cut back on all the fat/junk. The pounds will just melt off.

Changing your diet, and as such your lifestyle, can be one of the hardest things to do! You truly have to look at the long picture. I cut out 90% of my junk foods, and changed over to whole grains and cook all my meals from scratch. I think, perhaps, one of the greatest downfalls of "dieting" is that people completely cut out their favorite naughty foods - chocolate, potato chips, fast food, soda, etc. I allow myself to have one serving of something bad every day. Maybe once every two or so weeks I'll have some fast food. That way my cravings don't build up, and I'm still eating in an overall healthy manner.
Combine that with regular exercise (both cardio and resistance training), I've lost over 30lbs since September! And that is my success story! :)

I started lifting weights or running each morning (taking a break 1 day a week), and then going to the dojo to study Karate or Kobudo (Ryukyu & Okinawan weapons) 5 days a week in the evenings. Its been very effective at helping me, I'm in better shape than I've been in in years.

The BEST advice I can give is if you want to lose weight you DO NOT have to run on the treadmill like a sprinter everyday. Take it SLOW. I see people at the gym everyday running and working TOO hard. It's rediculous.

I have been eating healthy (not just dieting) and exercising for 7 months now (I am a diebetic type 2) and have lost a total of 27 lbs. while increasing muscle tone. (180lbs start to a healthy 154 lbs.)
Four things that helpd: A journal of all the things I eat along with their calories, fat cals, sodium, carbs, dietary fiber, protein, saturated fats, etc.
Eat six to seven meals a day, about 200-400 avg. calories with protein at all meals, carbs in the beginning and middle of the day. (Fruits mostly with some veggies)
Low impact, whole body exercises with my chin up bar. Really works my core....went from 2 pull ups at the start to 12 per set for 6 sets.
Finally doing something every day no matter how small because I can not afford to let my health decline because of the diebetes.
Good luck on your efforts.

What works for me maynot work for you. I once weighted an wopping 356 pounds back in 2004 now I have lost 180 pounds. Without diet aids. First get that junk out of your trunk! Start with an good colon cleaner. Next get to a good doctor with sound mind and blance weight-loss plan. Make sure they listen to what your saying. Then go to a workout center at least 30 min three times a week. Eat fruit's and veggies. Low cal foods only. Leave the high cal drink alone. Drink water. Don't weight your self but once every two week. Trust your brain, not your stomach!
The weight slowing come off but will remain off. That my secert to an good weight-loss plan. Go to bed and don't eat after 7pm.

I was 322 pounds on Sept. 7, 2007. Today I am 247 pounds. Right there is a clue to the biggest aid for weightloss for me. Get a good scale and WEIGH YOURSELF EVERY SINGLE MORNING. Write it down. The thing about a scale is you cannot rationlize with it - you can't bargain with it about a burrito, piece of cake, etc. It's gonna tell you and you keep that in the back of your mind when temptation arises. Coupled that with researching a lot on the internet for low calorie foods (the real key - forget fat, carbs, etc - calories is it) and I am so happy with how I feel now.

I weighted 190 lbs. in December of 2006.
I got down to 135 several months ago, and, so far, have maintened it.
How?
I briskly walk or go to the gym a total of 1 hour EVERYDAY
(no exceptions!)
I eat LESS (but have by no means cut out) junk food.
I TRY to get more sleep than I used to.
And yes, against much advice, I, to, weight myself EVERY morning.
This has worked for me, and I intend to continue this weight maintenance program for as long as I'm able to get around.
It has worked!!

I only have 3 rules.
1. eat all meals off a salad plate
2. drink black coffee, tea, or water instead of a sweet drink
3. No second helpings or between-meal snacks.
Other than this I eat what I want. I eat desserts (small helpings) and enjoy what I eat.
I qualify as a senior citizen and weigh 120 lbs. And yes i have had to watch my weight all my life.

I have lost over 50 lbs with this program. It is completely safe and natural. All you have to do is stick to 1200-1500 calorie diet and take 2 cc of lipotropic injections, these injections are a combination of amino acids and vitamins. They help you give you energy and help you increase your metabolism. You just have to research who has the best injections. There's many clinics that offer them but you need to know what is in them. Many clinics only offer B-12, that alone will not help.

The best diet to lose weight and keep it off is "use a smaller plate" thus eat less. Eat everything but cut the amount of food you eat. It Works!!!!

I have lost about 17 pounds since Christmas, just by doing push ups and chin ups. I have been using fitday to track calories and just make sure that every night before I go to bed -I have burned more calories than I have eaten. Really simple. I am blogging my progress-weight loss and the goal to do a million push ups and chins.

#1. Get a Physical before any strick diet regime
#2. Multiply your current body weight by 10 (Females) or 12 (Males) and only consume that many calories per day changing the amount as you drop 1/2 pound per week.
#3. Write down your calories and exercise them away if you go over your limit for the day.
#4. Exercise to build muscle - muscle burns more calories than fat does
#5. If you fail - start over again at the very next meal not the next day or week - and forgive yourself.
#6. Eat enough protein and fiber to control hunger and cravings. This also help keep insulin levels under control.
#7. Buddy up with someone who will help you be accountable
#8. Don't fall for quick weight loss schemes - it took a long time to put those pounds off - it's going to take some hard work and time to get them off - be patient and stay upbeat about it.
#9. Don't think of yourself as being on a diet...the new healthy foods you eat are your diet - not a diet - eat like this for a lifestyle - not a temporary thing
#10. Don't use food for your crutch...when things are hard...get help

Here's one that seems like no-brainer but is actually a big problem if you are overweight: Don't eat if you're not hungry.
Just because it's lunchtime or whatever doesn't mean you have to eat. Or at least not so much. When I have successfully lost weight and kept it off I have forced myself to have more of an awareness of when I'm actually full. I start with a smaller portion, and then if I'm still hungry I go for a little more, rather than starting with a big portion and eating until I'm overstuffed.
And, really, drink more water. Sometimes you're not really hungry; you're actually thirsty.
And get enough sleep. If you're sleeping, you're not snacking.

I've lost 40 pounds since I graduated high school, but more than that I'm MUCH healthier. I used to smoke and eat junk, never exercise. It was only because I was young and athletic that I wasn't morbidly obese. Now I work out every day and eat very well.
My best advice is find something active that you ENJOY. Then learn how to read food labels- eat only whole grains, cut out high fructose corn syrup completely, stay away from foods with artificial dyes. Don't eat out- even if you order things specially, they often still cook it how they want. Watch calories, serving sizes, sodium and saturated fat. DON'T EVER drink soft drinks, even diet.
I hit a plateau after a while, and was still eating a mostly vegetarian diet but with the occasional piece of fish. Then I decided to try Atkins, started eating venison and LOTS of fish, and lost my final 10 pounds or so.

I have never been on a diet. No need. I try to eat just what is good for me and small amounts of everything. If you have Acid food allergies, I have the remedy that you will never hear from your doctor because he doesn't know about it. A real mystery to me!

I have had to watch my weight all my life. I have lost and regained the same 15 pounds, so many times, that if I could have just kept loosing I would be gone. lol. but really it is a real struggle for me. I started AGAIN Jan.1st 2008 so far I've lost 50 pounds. I do weigh everyday. I walk on a tread mill every day also, about 1/2 hour. This book has changed my life. See if it will help you too.
