How Many Calories ... in New York Cheesecake?
By this point, most of us have accepted the fact that dessert is out of the question most nights of the week. Well, if we want to maintain our weight, that is. But we can't help the occasional indulgences, right? After all, what fun is life if you can't eat something you enjoy every now and then? And for some of us, what we enjoy is a sweet, delicious serving of dessert. And who doesn't love a good slice of New York-style Cheesecake every now and then? I know I can't resist -- I love sweet, rich things. And though cheesecake can't been good for you by any stretch of the imagination, it might not be all the bad. What do you think?
The answer is 1080 calories and 76 g of fat. Yowzer! I knew it was bad but that is a bit excessive. For an average-sized woman, that's more than half the recommended daily intake of calories. And that's not even the calorie count for the whole meal.
Still, it's ok to indulge every now and then. If life isn't the same without cheesecake, go for it--just make sure you share it with a couple of girlfriends.
Oh, and don't get it with caramel sauce -- that adds 700 calories!

It's the ugly American way. Eat whatever pleases you...as the pounds add up. Labels are very misleading. I looked at "natural" peanut butter with blueberries. There was hardly anything natural about it and lots of sugar. Heart Smart cereal is full of sugar and almost everything has got High Fructose Corn Syrup, which is worse than sugar. Read labels and don't eat in buffets. I try to share restaurant dinners with my partner. The dinner for one is usually enough for two.
It's really hard not to be revolted by the amount of obese people walking around. They're like diseases waiting to happen.

Sugar is natural, so is corn syrup, it's just the amount you stuff in your face !!! You can't live without sugar!! That doesn't mean you have to eat 2500 calories at one sitting!!
I'm sure you've never heard of the Kreb's cycle, look it up.
Continue trying to get thin.

I'm a 44 yr. old woman. 5'4" 112 lbs. I don't consume a whole piece of cheesecake anymore. I'm not dumb. I watch what I eat. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that it'll make you FAT!!!!!

Not everyone is educated and understands nutrition and what can make you "fat" and gain weight. Apparently you haven't worked with or been exposed to an underserved population or those from a low socioeconomic status.....

It is impossible to have dessert anymore, actually for me, it's impossible to have anything anymore. The sugar and carbs they put in everything nowadays makes it so you can't have much of anything. Everyone loses and gains weight differently, my husband loses 10 lbs just by thinking about going on a diet. Me, 4 years after baby, still am 30 lbs heavier than my goal weight of 120. I have learned that if I have no breakfast, a light lunch and a small dinner every night, I will gain 5 lbs a month. After trying so many different diets, I have learned that the only way for me to actually lose any weight is the special k diet. Cereal for breakfast, lowfat yogurt for lunch and a small salad with a half a grilled chicken cutlet for dinner and finally the lbs are slowly coming off. Everyone tells me about how I'm not supposed to do that, I'm supposed to cut portions or my body won't lose weight, but it just doesn't happen for me. Maybe one day I'll lose it all and will be able to consider eating a sandwich once a week and maybe even pasta once a month, who knows? But the crap they put in food now is just terrible, has anyone noticed how much sugars and carbs and calories are in just plain apple or orange juice? It's no wonder the country is overweight, you can't have anything anymore. For those who complain about all the fat people around, I agree it's not pleasant to look at but it is true that some people really do try, but some people lose weight easily and for others it's very hard. I'm not even significantly overweight, just enough to wound my vanity and I find that for my body it's unbelievably hard. It is nice to have cheesecake sometimes, but jeez, that's over a days calories and a month worth of sugar for me.

Well said, Joya! I'm really sick of seeing self-righteous 'fit' people talking down on those who don't fit the model of physical fitness that has been cast by the mainstream media and the 'fitness' industry. The mere fact that some people don't meet some arbitrary fintness standard doesn't make them the scum that some would believe they are. Hey, I'm in great shape...After all, round is a shape too!

The calories and fat aren't as bad as the sugar. They didn't mention how many grams of sugar was included. Stupid people try to stay away from fat when sugar is the real killer. The think they're eating healthy when they eat a low-fat food, but they just get fat and unhealthy.

If you exercise enough, the extra calories really don't matter. When I had 2-hour basketball practice everyday followed by 2 hour cheer practice, I ate whatever I wanted. Therefore, if you want to eat the cheescake, work out enough to compensate for it.
Now that I don't have sports anymore, I'll share my meal and cheesecake with a friend and don't feel bad. Fewer calories, same satisfaction without the temptation of eating the whole slice. Plus I don't feel overly full.

You can eat a decent meal if you watch yourself and still lose weight if you follow WeightWatchers Point system. I do WW online. I gained a lot of weight on a medication several years ago and I was very frustrated, having always been small. It took me almost a year, but I lost 40 pounds with WW. It was relatively painless once I got used to it. I also have to watch sugar and carbs, as I am diabetic, too. I do not consume the "extra" 35 points you are allowed per week. If I did I would never lose anything. it's slow, but it is sure and no fad diet.
