Appalled by your bunion?

If you have an odd-looking, bony lump that has taken up residence on the outer edge of your big toe, you probably have a bunion. These lumps form because of a misalignment in your foot, which, in turn, causes the bone to protrude a bit.
I've fortunately never had a bunion, although I've heard from many people who have that they can be quite painful. To help deal with the pain and prevent against making matters worse for your bunion, try wearing footwear made of stretchy material (such as leather) that will conform to the curves of your foot, say the folks at Women's Health magazine.
You can also try using custom insoles to prevent your bunion from worsening, but the only recourse for getting rid of it is surgery. However, because removing a bunion is actually a very involved and debilitating surgery (it can leave you unable to walk properly for about two months afterward), doctors only suggest this route if the pain is unbearable.
