I have had insomnia since 2000
in 2005 starting taking sleeping pills, restoril, doctor took me off in 3months, then he gave me anti-depressive, because they have sleepy formula but only 25mg elavil, not habit forming, but here is the good part, I cut it in half, then a half of Antihistamine from family dollar called allerphen at bed time, 2 bucks a box, so i take 2 halfs of a low dose of meds that make u a little sleepy, then u fall off & stay sleep, it works very well & u wake up good, thats why I do half, wholes can make u sleep to hard.
I suffer from insomnia pretty bad, allowing me to get a lot of work done, but I find that even though I sleep very little, I am able to take time through the night to sit and relax, which is actually the most important thing about insomnia. Lying in bed thinking is so annoying, running over everything from that day and reviewing the next days requirements, so learning to switch off and let my body at least relax is imperative when I stay awake. Whilst reading may help most people sleep, for an insomniac reading can actually stimulate the brain, making the calming of one's mind into sleep difficult. Television isn't too bad because it allows the senses to continue (as in light sleep) while the body can relax and re-energize, however, it is advisable to put a sleep timer on the television (if it has one) for around an hour or two, so if in fact you do manage to fall asleep your chances of falling into deep sleep will heighten. Not to say that a book won't make a person tired, but you will most likely go to bed out of exhaustion whilst your mind is very active, inhibiting true sleep and causing frustration, which is the essence of what insomnia is all about. Learning to relax will help ease the frustration of being awake, but insomnia is an uphill battle. That's all I have, good luck and good-morning.
Are You really taking benadryl every night ?or maybe you can't sleep once in a while me it is allmost every night I have a problem sleeping liquor will eat up your liver and drugs will eat up your brain .
If you're really desperate to fall asleep, "watch" C-Span... the droning of whomever is talking makes you feel like you are in a really boring class where your head is doing that uncontrollable nodding off movement where you have to physically snap yourself back to attention. Try it if you don't believe me...
Sometimes I like to remember all the people I smiled at that day. That lady I helped off the bus, the child whose ball I stopped from going in the street, the disabled veteran who needed a hug. I think about all those people and my large impact on their lives and pretty soon I drift off to sleep.
