British man taken to court for lifting weights too loudly
Giran Jobe, a grunting weightlifter, had some disgruntled neighbors who felt he was too loud when lifting his weights. And, it turns out he probably was too loud, as he has now been fined, given a noise abatement, and taken to court. Before you get too upset, you should know that the noise coming from his top floor flat was measured last June, and found to reach 100 decibels, the level of noise typically found at a rock concert. He was ordered to keep the noise down. Then, only a month later, the neighbors lodged another complaint, so the the Council implemented some noise recording devices.Over the next six months, 47 breaches of the abatement were reported, with the noise being attributed to "grunting and noise from the weights hitting the floor." Jobe went to court this week, and though he promised to stop weight lifting, he also said, "I cannot believe I got taken to court for exercising."
He's not the first to get in trouble for it, and I'm sure he won't be the last.

Why is this story even on here, Kristen? There is a circus sideshow story and offers ThatsFit.com readers zero actionable intelligence. I think you need to take a hard look at what your intentions are: to inform, or to entertain? Perhaps you can get away with both for a while, but ultimately, you'll undermine your credibility, and ThatsFit.com's credibility, as a trustworthy health and fitness resource.

Danielle,
Wow - you really need to get a life.
Talk about getting too deep into a blog.
I found it humerous - come on....can you imagine making too much noise? I was picturing him grunting!
Lighten up - hey do you have some issues you need help with - Kristen might have some great ideas to help with your stress.
Keep up your great work Kristen!

Wow Danielle, why so harsh? Have you ever heard of a human interest story?

Lighten up, Danielle. There's room and an audience for both. If you don't like it, skip to the next post.

Hey Danielle, have you made such a rude comment on any of the other posts on this site that are not TOTALLY health and fitness driven? Certainly there's room for intelligent humor, human interest, and entertaining celebrity interviews. If the post doesn't interest you - and they don't all interest me - pass on to the next one. And just maybe some of us need to know you can't grunt too loud at Planet Fitness either and missed the first post on the subject. Good job Kristen!

I thought the story was great and really like the fact that I can read ALL about fitness here. Looks like you are out numbered, Danielle. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but wow!! You should try Yoga...it helps tone down anger.

Seriously Danielle, if you are not interested in the story, then don't read it. Now, not only have you wasted your own time in not only reading this AND posting to it, but you've also wasted my time and the time of all the other people who commented back as well. Besides, who died and left you in charge of what is and is not allowed to be on this page?
Kristen, I think this is an interesting story, and it might make someone out there think twice about how much noise they make working out. Dropping weights and grunting is fine with me at the gym, but who wants to hear 60 pounds of weight dropped on their ceiling. Cause in the article you linked to, this guy lives on the TOP FLOOR! I get mad enough when people walk too loudly above me!
