Fit Gadgets: I went running with Lance Armstrong!

That's right! I went running with the Livestrong legend, and you can too!

Nike+ has created a 40 minute running workout featuring Lance Armstrong, and they generously allowed me to download and review it. And I'll tell you what -- 40 minutes on a treadmill has never gone by so fast. The mix of music included songs by artists like Weezer, Beck, and The All-American Rejects and, more importantly, had Lance Armstrong coaching me through the workout.

I definitely liked the extra motivation -- every time I wanted to slow down, I heard Lance's voice and thought of that scene in Dodgeball where he sees Vince Vaughn in the airport bar and talks to him about quitting:

"Quit? You know, once I was thinking of quitting when I was diagnosed with brain, lung, and testicular cancer all at the same time. But with the love and support of my friends and family, I got back on the bike and won the Tour de France five times in a row. But I'm sure you have a good reason to quit."

Needless to say, I pushed through it.

The workout itself was tough-- an eight minute warm up, then several four minute intervals, ending with a cool down. But, it got me out of my comfort zone and made me push my limits, which was fantastic.

I wasn't a huge fan of some of the songs, but if you're interested in the idea, you can sample Lance's mix and workout along with Serena Williams', Kara Goucher's, and more to see what suits you best.

Overall, Lance has a fantastic voice and gives some good coaching instruction -- my pace was right around what it normally was, but it seemed a bit easier having someone there giving me an extra push. I can't wait to go for a run outdoors with it and see how far I get!

The Lance Armstrong: Run Longer Coaching Mix and others are available here and here for $13.99. FYI, with the Lance Armstrong mix, 100% of Nike's profits go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, so you can feel emotionally great in addition to becoming a running machine.
