Searching for not so much salt
It seems just as I find something pretty healthy to eat, I realize it's loaded with something not-so-healthy. Most times, I can work a meal or snack low in calories, fat, and sugar, for example. I have a harder time finding these three while also cutting down on sodium. That sneaky salt.I'm on the hunt -- for low-sodium foods and recipes. Look what I just came across: A Mayo Clinic website listing bunches of recipes that fit my low-salt bill. By low, I mean no more than 140 mg of sodium per serving.
So how do these recipes stack up in the other not-so-healthy departments? Well, two slices of this mango salsa pizza have 128 mg sodium, 325 calories, 4 g fat, 8 g protein, and 64 g carbohydrates. What do you think? How about 3/4 cup of this mixed bean salad with 110 mg sodium, 130 calories, 0 g fat, 7 g protein, and 25 g carbohydrates? Or granola with raisins, apples, and cinnamon? In 1/4 cup, you get 115 mg sodium, 163 calories, 2 g fat, 4 g protein, and 33 g carbohydrates.
Eating is like a game of give and take. We give up some no-no items and end up sacrificing somewhere else. Balance is all it is, I guess. Balancing the good and the bad as we fuel and nourish our bodies. No one said it was easy, right?

Hi Jacki,
You are correct in saying "no one said it was easy", but it' sure is worth the alternative ... getting ill. That's not easy either! Keep up your quest for good health and sharing it with us!
