Why the pounds are sticking around: Quick Tip #3
Even with the best of intentions, as well as an admirable amount of effort, the weight sometimes doesn't come off!! Try as you might to get the needle on that scale to budge even the slightest bit, sometimes it's just not having it. This is especially true for people who have already lost quite a bit of weight and are now trying to take off those last ten pounds or so.
To help you shed those stubborn extra pounds, here is a quick tip from an article titled "Scale Stuck?", which appears in this month's edition of Self magazine. I'll be posting one of them a day for the next 10 days.
Hopefully these tips will help you figure out what's causing those pounds to stick around.
Quick Tip #3
Diet Flub: You celebrate workouts with too many calories - This is where things can get tricky. You just finished a greuling workout and your body is craving some food. Don't deny it what it needs, but don't overindulge, either. According to the article in Self magazine, a University of Ottawa study revealed that people tend to eat 120 more calories following intense exercise than they do after a lighter workout that torched the same number of calories. The author of the article posits that the splurge may feel justified because the workout was so difficult.
Fix It: Bring a healthy snack with you to the gym. The solution is not to starve yourself after a workout; rather, you should actually be doing what you can to replenish your body. But, as stated before, the key is to not go overboard. A light snack that contains a healthy amount of protein and carbs will do just fine.
