Fit Beauty: Preparation is the key to holiday beauty
Traveling is easily one of my favorite activities. Whether it's a short road trip with friends or an across the globe adventure, as long as I can get the time off work and scrape together enough money to go, I'm in. The only thing I don't like, is the dazed and crazed look I often sport after several hours of travel time.
I wrote not so long ago about an article that gave tips on how you can maintain your good looks while on a flight -- drinking lots of water and no alcohol, sleep and movement are all key. This time I've come across an article that will help you prepare beforehand, including advice on what to pack and which beauty treatments to try before you hit the road. Whether you're traveling for business or for pleasure, the advice listed here will make sure that you're looking great as soon as you land.
If you're tired your eyes will give you away. Sleep and eye drops are always useful on a trip whether on a plane, train or automobile. The article suggests that, beauty-wise, it's a good idea to pluck or wax your eyebrows right before you go. Depending on the length of your trip, you may have to do this again while you're gone, but it's great advice for being adventure-ready as soon as you arrive.
Make-up wise, they suggest bringing a single color palette or just relying on black eyeliner throughout the trip, in order to conserve space. Perhaps my favorite idea is to dip Q-tips in make-up remover before you go and seal them in a plastic bag. This way you can remove smudges wherever you go.
When it comes to maintaining a fresh face, they suggest that you invest in some face-cleansing pads and those oil-absorbing sheets. I know that anytime I head somewhere humid, my face gets incredibly greasy. Add that to the sweat that accumulates from hauling luggage all over the place and your skin can end up pretty gross. If you've got cleansing pads and the oil-absorbing sheets, you can make sure you're clean and grease-free no matter where you are.
Your hair is another feature that you can take care of before you leave. I always like to get a good cut before I go anywhere so that maintenance afterward is minimal. The piece also suggests that you use a deep-conditioner before you go to keep hair moisturized in climates you're not used to. Also, I agree that if you're on holiday you may as well give up your normal blow-dry, curling iron and/or straightening routine. Either pull it up or let it air dry, and just be casual about it. A nice headband will also help you save time while still looking fairly well put-together.
Finally, skin care is essential. As the article mentions, always apply sunscreen (at least SPF 15) no matter where you go. I'm always afraid that if I put on sunscreen I won't get a tan but I've learned the hard way that peeling, pink skin is usually the result. Plus, I've also realized that with the amount of time I spend outdoors on a holiday, I still end up well-bronzed even with sunscreen.
For more eyes, face, hair and skin travel tips, you can read the entire article here. I know that many of you will be traveling soon for Easter so I hope everyone has safe (and beautiful) trips!
