How Many Calories ... in Spinach Dip

Spinach Dip is one of those staple foods that makes an appearance at every party, at least in the circles I run in. And why not? It's easy to make, and even easier to pick up from your grocer's deli section when you're in a hurry. Plus? Everyone loves it, and since it has the word 'spinach' in the title, it can almost pass as something that's healthy for you.
But it is really healthy? When the main ingredients besides spinach are sour cream and mayonnaise, I'm guessing the answer is 'no' but hey -- you never know.

The answer is 140 calories. But, and this is a big but, a serving is only 2 tablespoons. That's not a whole lot -- it works out to about three or four bites, and that doesn't take into account the bread or crackers you use to dip. And that 140 calories has 15 g of fat (3.5 of it saturated) to go along with that. You know how we always tell you check the labels? This is why -- serving sizes can be deceiving.
So next time you're going to a party, save yourself some extra time and make your own low-fat spinach dip -- and don't forget to pair it with some whole grain bread. Need some recipes? Here are a few:
