Nike and Apple want your iPod and treadmill to get friendly
Pretty soon, your iPod will be able to run for you. Okay, so that might be an exaggeration, but it's certainly becoming indispensable for workouts, and it's about to become an even bigger part of your fitness routine.Nike and Apple are working together with gym equipment manufacturers to make them compatible with iPod nanos. Cardio equipment would allow you to plug in your iPod nano to track your workout, and when you got home, you could then upload that information to the Nike+ website.
Apparently, Precor, Life Fitness, and Technogym are already on board and working to make their equipment iPod compatible. Sometime this summer, you can expect to see this technology in Virgin Active Health Clubs and 24 Hour Fitness. In the meantime, you might want to look at getting your shoes in sync with your music with Nike+iPod's earlier creation, the Nike+iPod sports kit, which allows shoe wearers to see and store information about their workouts on their iPods.

I have the Nike+iPod sports kit and it already works where ever I run, including on treadmills, so exactly how is this going to help?
This sounds more like a iPod dock on treadmills that saves the info to the iPod without additional hardware. Sounds great, but what keeps people from setting the treadmill and walking away? At least the Nike+iPod you have to move your feet. I know it sounds silly that people would "cheat" but it becomes competitive when you're racing against other people online.
