Taking Off Ten: Facing up to the addiction
Whether you've got 10, 20 or 100 lbs to shed, weight loss is hard. Taking Off Ten is about the journey to lose 10 lbs -- there's more to it than you think! When I started working in an office again, I was surrounded by sugar. A little bit here, a little bit there--in the end, it didn't add up to much because I work out enough to work it off. But there's another problem: It became a habit.
Prior to Christmas, I had been careful about my sugar intake. It was an occasional indulgence that I enjoyed once a week at the most. Now, it's a different story--I start craving sugar around 10am and though it doesn't consume my thoughts, it always seems to be in the back of my head. My will power is usually pretty solid, but I dread those days that some 'kind' person tempts me with a sweet treat.
Am I the only one with this problem? I'd be inclined to think it was due to that time of the month, except it's lasted the last two months, so I think it's something deeper. Luckily, I came across this article on the hidden reason behind a sugar addiction. For me, a habitual sugar user, it advises me to wean myself off sugar by eating 'healthy' sugars like fruits. It seems like an obvious answer, but man, I'll try anything at this point.

Martha - sugar is addictive. You're not alone, by far. It's normal to get a sugar craving after a meal, for example. We need to (I think) satisfy that craving with a small amount of high-quality sweets such as dark organic chocolate, and move on. (Think French) Stay hydrated, take a walk, don't let the sugar monster take over :)

I was a sugar FIEND, but I don't crave it AT ALL anymore, believe it or not. Just eat fruit everyday and you won't want sugar anymore after two weeks of not eating it.
