The findings, which have been called 'fantastically important', showed that many of the most widely-used antidepressants did no more good for mentally ill patients than a placebo. According to Research Professor Irving Kirsch, "Given these data, there seems little evidence to support the prescription of anti-depressant medication to any but the most severely depressed patients, unless alternative treatments have failed to provide benefit."
