Taking off Ten: On-the-job weight gain?
Whether you've got 10, 20 or 100 lbs to shed, weight loss is hard. Taking Off Ten is about the journey to lose 10 lbs -- there's more to it than you think!
After working from home for nearly a year, I recently embarked on a project which has me spending time in an office again. And I must admit, I like it--I'm a social creature and love structure, and my schedule is flexible enough that I can retreat to my home office when needed. But there's one drawback: The eating aspect.
At home, I have a simple solution to sticking to healthy foods: I just don't buy junk. But at the office, it's not so easy--there are people left, right and centre who are ready to de-rail my best intentions with donuts, chocolates, potluck lunches and the likes. And when I'm feeling too lazy to pack a healthy snack or meal to take with me, I end up buying a lunch. Yikes.
Fitsugar recently posted these tips on how to avoid gaining weight on the job. Some great tips? Always keep healthy snacks and plenty of water at your desk in the event of temptation. Also? Bring your lunch. Read the rest of the tips here.
Another problem? Sitting all day doesn't burn many calories, so you need to find a way to work in the workout. Lucky for me, my schedule is flexible enough that I can log a fair amount of gym time -- about an hour a day.
What about you? What do you do to avoid office weight gain?

Martha - I totally feel your pain. Recently I was able to change the Friday donut box into a Friday fruit bowl. I was able to find some like minded individuals and we are slowly spreading the health/fitness bug.
Peace,
Tim

Hi Martha,
My office environment was similar to yours (unhealthy foods all over the place). Luckily, a friend of mine who is a Holistic Nutritionist sent me a link to an organic wholefood meals company. I have been hooked ever since. There wholefood meals can be used as meal replacement. I eat this one product that's called Phi Plus - which contains 45 different organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, etc. - you name it and it's in there. It's nutrient dense - which means it doesn't take a lot to fill you up. I make little baggies and leave them in my car and at the office. When I don't have time to prepare a healthy meal - I eat a baggie of nutrition.
Fruitilicious (contains over 11 different fruits) and Veggielicious (has a variety of 13 veggies) are my son's favorites. He's 5 years old - and he gets all his recommended daily allowance of fruits and veggies from those 2-products. No prep involved, you can eat them right from the bag. They can be added to yogurt, cream of wheat, soups or salads. If your looking for some awesome organic tasting healthy snacks for the office please check us out. www.bbrockus.wholefoodfarmacy.com
Be blessed,
Barbara B
