Life Fit Chat with That's Fit Life Fit Expert Laura Lewis brings conversation provoking tidbits to your table, served up with a touch of spice! Byte-sized information that pack some punch, brought to you every Wednesday and Thursday!Does your brain have a musical fingerprint? The answer may very well be yes! Brain Music Therapy emulates a simple piano melody but is actually a complex interpretation of the brain's waves. Brain Music Therapy is intended to prompt the body to elicit a certain response: relaxation or attentiveness. Listening to one's own brain wave music several times a day may actually benefit patients with sleep disorders, anxiety, depression and other disorders or diseases.
"Your brain is actually listening to the best of itself," said William Wade, a Houston-based psychotherapist who offers Brain Music Therapy. "It models itself after the brain music." While Brain Music Therapy has met much criticism in the medical community, Wade and his partner, Carol Kershaw, have experienced surprising success when treating patients with this particular modality.
Brain Music Therapy typically involves an initial file that patients listen to for three to four months until the brain adjusts to the music, and then another that typically lasts for about four years. Insurance does not cover this type of therapy, and it is too early for serious scientific data to evaluate its long-term effectiveness. But, it certainly peeks one curiosity. I mean, really ... I do wonder what my brain sounds like. What are your thoughts on the matter?
