Taking Off Ten: Setbacks
Whether you've got 10, 20 or 100 lbs to shed, weight loss is hard. Taking Off Ten is about the journey to lose 10 lbs -- there's more to it than you think!Setbacks are a part of life; I know this. But I can't help but be a bit disappointed with myself lately. I've taken on some extra projects, which have left me with very little spare time. And the spare time I do have has been monopolized by social obligations that have involved--you guessed it--lots of food. I've been mostly good--limiting my portions, choosing the salad bar over other choices and only eating until I'm not hungry anymore--but I haven't seen the number on the scale go down in a while. Gulp. The good news is that the workload has subsided--finally--so there will be less eating out and more gym time in my immediate future.
But in the meantime, I'm asking for your advice. How do you get back on track after you've veered wayyyyy off it? I'm considering doing a bit of a detox--yay or nay?

Gimzz.... how much weight are you trying to lose. Can I recommend tracking your progress in a notepad? And, if you're too busy to track calories, at least write down the foods you eat. You'll find just tracking food eaten can really help you see how well you're doing with a diet.

Hey there, I am in the same place you are. I was working out an hour a day and since mid January I have not been in a position to do it. I have gotten a workout buddy that I have confinced to get me off my rear. She calls everyday and takes very few excuses. She will even call me from her workout. So my advise is get a partner that you can depend on. As far as the cleanse, I just finished my 30 day cleanse and all in all I don't believe that it helped with weight. However, I do think that it was good for my overall health. It will make you very tired in the beginning. Good Luck, I know you can do it.

Nothin' to it, but to do it.
In other words, if you have a setback, you just do what you said you're going to. Get back on the exercise wagon and eat smart.
By the way, I totally feel your pain. I've been just a little lax lately, but my pants say otherwise...they say I've been a LOT lax, and it's no fun at all. I've got to get my butt busy and start working out regularly. I've found 15 pounds and they don't wanna get lost. Darn it, though, I'm determined to lose them.

One of the best (and easiest) things you can do is start from where you are. Take it easy. Refrain from going overboard - I was going to say don't go hog wild, but that's kind of the wrong use of the term.
Apparently you've had a program that worked for you. Just get back on that. It seems you already know what to do.
Use some relaxation techniques, too. Reduce that stress level. AAAAnd drink lots of water when you feel the urge to snack. Sometimes it isn't goodies we crave, it's just good old H2O.
Detox? A good idea. Personally I wouldn't "diet" and detox at the same time. I bet if you just get back on track with the dietary routine the detox will happen almost automatically. Just remember to drink that water to flush the system.
Good luck to you.

Don't know what kind of "detox" you mean, so I can't advise.
I did my own form after spending too much time with my mom, but it just involved eating as perfectly as possible for a time period to ease back into allowing *moderate* treats, instead of the steady diet of crap I get when I'm with her.
I find if I beat myself up about things, I feel worse, and fail more. If I just let it happen and get back to it, I get over it, and it's fine.
I was *desperate* for sweets today, so I ate M&Ms, cookies, sugar in my coffee, and dark chocolate. The more I tried not to think about them, the more I wanted them, so I ate it, and tomorrow I probably won't, and I'll eat carrots instead!
It's about the big picture, right?

Do NOT 'detox'. BECAUSE...you are making a lifestyle change, not a quick way to lose a few pounds. If you do a detox type diet every time you veer off your path, you're going to be dependent on that. Just go BACK to your OLD eating habits, healthy and smart and get back in the gym. This will teach you to get healthy and smart always without some crazy "crap-I-went-off-my-diet-now-I-need-a-quick-fix"

Thanks for all your thoughts, guys. I've decided against a full-on 'detox' but I do need a few days of eating really well to get back on track. I'd gotten used to having bits of sugar here and there all day long and I need to get away from the habit -- it is really addictive though!! Will give you guys the update soon :)
