How Many Calories ... in Kisses?
Categories: How Many Calories?
I may be stating the obvious here, but tomorrow is Valentine's day. Are you all set to woo or swoon over your sweetie? Have you purchased the pre-requisite cards, flowers and chocolates? No? Well, you should get on it. Either that or forget about it all together.
Well, ok. I know you probably can't forget about the holiday without risking severe backlash from your significant other, but consider this: How many calories are consumed in giving your loved one a long, passionate kiss or a warm, loving hug? How much does it cost? The answer to both is a big fat zero, and yet it's still far more meaningful than anything you can buy in the store.
So this Valentine's day, save yourself money and calories by giving real kisses instead of Hershey ones. Why? Well, consider this:
The answer is 240 Calories. That's not too bad, but you'd have to run for at least 20 minutes to burn that off and I'm guessing some of you won't be doing that on Valentine's day. So my advice? Stick to one or two, and save you appetite for some real kissing.

I HATE valentine's day, much to my partner's dismay. It's so corporate, made up, fake to spend money on tacky things.

Haha. Yes. It really is. I've never been really attached to it (although I'll never say no to flowers. I always bring them up to my room and paint them). My friend the other day was telling me about White Day in Japan, and I couldn't help but like that. While it's even more commercialized... I don't know. It's just a give and take on both sides, I guess. Any holiday's a good holiday if it breaks the boring monotony of life.

I love Valentine's day, but I keep it simple and inexpensive. I get a card and this year I gave my boyfriend a rose and a baloon, because he gave candy up for lent. He got me 3 roses and a box of chocolate along with a card. And i usually just get my kids some candy. It doesn't have to be expensive, just something to say that you didn't forget them and you care. It is a hallmark holiday, but you can still say you care without spending alot. I know some people expect much more, though and that is sad. I think that loving someone should be year round and not expensive or ellaborate.

I know what you mean, but for your partner's sake, don't let him know. I know a married couple, they seperated a few years ago, the husband believed Valentine's Day to be a Hallmark Holiday, and he never did anything for her. She knows that it's become a Hallmark holiday, but it hurt her a lot, even now she still thinks of it.
The fact is that it is a Hallmark Holiday. It may very well be corprate and made up. But go along with it. For one day a year, just forget about it. Make a small effort. Just take your partner out to dinner. Act like it's an anniversary. You don't even have to spend a lot of money. Make dinner for her if you don't normally. Take her out to a movie, on a romantice hike, you don't need to empty your wallet. Trust me, your relationship will thank you. It may be stupid, but go along with Valentine's Day.

I totally agree.... Valentine's day has gotten outta hand. I think it's way better when people do thoughtful things.

you guys couldnt be more right, i hate when major corporations impose their selfish values on our american culture, but i love the fakeness of it and how when i spend money on my girl its like im not even spending money because valentnes day is so cheap and tacky, its rather existential, or maybe vishaal, no one will fuck you for 240 calories.

Valentines day comes from the feast day of 2 different christian Martyrs named Valentine, but the customs connect w/ the day... probably come from an ancient Roman Festival called "Lupercalia" which took place every February 15. The festival honored Juno, the Roman goddes of women and Marriage, and Pan, the god of nature.-the world book encyclopedia (1973), Vol.20, p.204 This holiday not only makes men and women waste money but really celebrating love should be done everyday!!! NOT ONLY ON 1 DAY especially from old past holidays!!!!!

If you can't figure out a way to burn 240 calories with your significant other, you must not have gotten the right Valentine's Day gift. ;-)

You people act as if this holiday has just started in the past couple of years and it's all corporate, but do you even know why we celebrate this holiday? Do you know why it all started? The story behind it is very romantic and saint Valentine was killed because of it. Sure now the card companies make a lot of money off of it but it has nothing to do with what they do it all has to do with people buying into it all.

I don't care much for Valentine's since I don't or didn't have a sweetie..however a good friend was in town with his kids and they did the SWEETEST thing..after going out for a while they came in and locked themselves in my bedroom and I was wondering what they were up too..suddenly they came out and gave me a necklace, bracelet and a letter they each had written something from the heart..and they have 2 Valentine's day card to their father..needless to say both of yous were in tears..it's not soo much about lovers anymore but it can be of friends being together and hanging out and sharing..I must say this was the BEST valentines day EVER.
