Artificial sweeteners tied to weight gain
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
Do you use a little Equal in your coffee every morning because you think cutting back on sugar will cut your waistline? Well, if you are, you should stop. These no-calorie sweeteners may actually be making you gain weight.
A recent study found that artificial sweeteners "might actually foster weight gain by confusing the body in a way that makes it harder to burn calories."
By conducting tests on two groups of rats, the study found that the group of rats that received yogurt with saccharine went on to consume more calories, gain more weight and put on more body fat.
What do you think about this study? If you use artificial sweeteners, do you think it has affected your weight?

I know personal observations aren't at all scientific, but I did notice that I wasn't losing any weight by exclusively using artificial sweeteners. I started using the raw sugar (not the refined kind) and noticed that I actually felt satisfied/full after a cup of coffee or tea where before I would crave sweets. I was able to cut 10 lbs in January through healthier eating habits and a stepped up exercise routine. Keep in mind, however, that many things contain that evil "high fructose corn syrup" that is NOT sugar. I don't drink sodas or anything like that. I drink mainly tea, coffee, and water.

I was a sugar FIEND before when I drank a LITER of diet coke a day and used splenda in anything. I still craved sugar even though I was drinking and eating artificial sweetners to STOP craving the real sugar. I decided to completely GIVE UP artificial sweetners (except the ones found in gum), and I now DO NOT crave sugar, EVER. WOW.
