Matthew McConaughey to soften his six-pack
Categories: Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment
What? PR-inside reports chiseled Matthew McConaughey will be packing on a few pounds to prepare for a new movie role. He is cast as an older, brawling barfly in The Grackle.
According to McConaughey, his character needs to be bull strong, but meaty, too. I'm in shock. If I were as rich and famous as McConaughey -- and had his body -- I'd have a tough time accepting any acting role which jeopardizes hard-earned, six-pack abs.
Lots of actors and actresses have temporarily gained weight for certain roles -- just look at Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones's Diary. If you were a famous movie star, had plenty of cash and a hot body, would you eat your way up the scale for a part? Let us know in the poll below:

He probably started losing the bod, and purposely found this role as a good excuse.

I would definitely gain the weight being a rich movie star. Because then you have all that money to get you back to the perfect body.......

I don't have a problem with it. I always thought he was a bit too skinny myself. Even with a few extra pounds he will still be F-I-N-E! ;o)

Should be easy enough - most men gain "sympathy weight" along with their pregnant partners.

I don't think putting on a few pounds will hurt him at all. I just hope he loses the weight in a healthy way if he chooses to return to his pre-weight gain.
As for Renee, I thought she looked great as Bridget. I think now she is way too skinny.

Think of it as $1,000,000 per pound. Want me to gain ten to fifteen pounds? Gladly! The weight can always be lost.

Frankly nobody cares about his body as much as he does. He seems so shallow. Do we actually care whether he will gain weight for a movie role? Not me.

I guess you could use the theory that with all the money that celebrities have, especially considering he's probably being paid around $8-10 million per movie role, he could (with some hard work) get his body back.

He will be fine, if can train himself to gain it then he can train again to lose it, hey let's be real he is rich and famous, he can have meals made to put on and take off, he will be absolutely fine and remain the good looking man he is, so what's the problem here??

You could not pay me 15 million dollars to gain weight. I was always
heavy and in the past 10 years have finally gotten a handle on my
weight. In college I weighed over 200 pounds. I am 5'5" and fight
the good fight every day. I now weigh 135 and want to hug myself
every day as I feel so good about myself. I am not thin by any
standard, but am normal and have great muscle tone.
I am a single mom of a chubby one year old and do not have the time
to go to a gym..
As I have a small house I don't
have any large pieces of equipment.
I have a jump rope, a work out ball, some free weights.
I wear smartsole insoles that I read about on aol that you put in
your sneakers to increase intensity of workout. They are under $30
bucks and tone muscles and are fab-u-lous http://www.smartsole.com
I also have an exercise bike that is small and compact that I bought
at sears http://www.sears.com Sears home brand for simple exercise
bikes are fantastic...cheap and sturdy.

The whole point of being an actor is to take on roles that are out of character..If gorgeous actors do nothing except sit around and be gorgeous..they will not be long in this profession...

It would depend on the amount of weight and the length of time it would stay on.
If it were less than 30 pounds and it were just for a few months, I'd say sure! McConaughey is young and strong. His metabolism will take care of a lot of the extra weight once he started trying to lose it again.
On the other hand, if it were more than 30 pounds for around a year or longer, it could be harmful. Your metabolism would probably be completely derailed by that point and you'd have to start losing as though you'd always been overweight. You couldn't just get back into your old routine, you'd have to start slowly working up to it.
As many people pointed out, I'm sure he has enough money to buy all the trainers he needs. Besides, I love watching real stars letting themselves out a little bit. It makes the rest of us feel human. I gained a lot of respect for Rene Zellwheger (sp - sorry) when she gained a few pounds for Bridget Jones... and I was DEFINITELY able to identify with her character more because of her constant weight struggle.
