Alzheimer's hat for stopping mental decline?

My 63 yr old Mother suffers from Dementia, this would be an awesome discovery for her and others alike.

that would be truly wonderful if it would in fact work...my mother-in-law suffers from alzheimer's and it is horrible....she was one of the most intelligent, hard working women i have ever met and now she's like a small child and doesn't want to get out of bed

My grandmother suffers from this disease. Wonder if it really works? Wonder how much it costs? Wonder when it will be available?

Ive taken care of my grandmother (92yrsold) for 8 yrs now. While Im all for ANY cure for this awful disease, I dont see this as being it. I can hardly get her to take a shower or comb her hair...Im thinking my odds of planting a space dish on her head are slim to none.

My mom just turned 60 this January & she was diagnosed with dimentia over 3 years ago. It's had a real impact on my family to see this illness taking over my her life slowly but shortly. We hope & pray that they find a cure before it gets to the point that she doesn't recognize us anymore. But we definitely leave it to the high almighty. God Bless everyone & continue to have the strength & patience it takes to deal with our loved ones.

My mother passed away on 12/18/2005 after 9 years of this horrific disease. I took care of her and would do it all over again. I have done a lot of research and there never seems to be any real ice breakers of a cure. With all the technology and resources in our country, there has to be someone or some group that has an answer. It truly is a very long goodbye process. I continue to pray for a miracle.

For years, I worked in a lock-down Alzheimers ward. (Level I) It took its toll on me. I felt the fear, the sorrow and the anguish from the families. I cried many times. All due credit should be given to the sufferer's care-takers. It's a bleak prognosis, a sad ending and a heartbreak. Any new tech breakthrough that can help would be worth its weight in research. ...and George Clooney should be chastised for wishing it on Charlton Heston. I'll take it that he doesn't know what he wished for.

Alzheimer's may be linked to Lyme Disease. Before you dismiss the idea, consider that testing for Lyme is only 50% accurate. Brain lesions similar to those in Alzheimer's patients are often detectable in Lyme patients. Check these links for more info:

I just started caring for my 94 yr old grandmother a few weeks ago... her bizarre behavor prompted me to put her in the hospital where she was diagnosed with alzheimers..in her youth, she was unbeatable...smart, witty, worked in as a welder in airplane factories during WWII. I would really like to think a hat would do the trick..but I can't even get her to shower and getting her to eat anything but cake is like pulling hens' teeth... wish a hat was the answer...

See how fast people want to buy into empty promises? This may be difficult to face, but there is still no cure out there -- though doctors right now are pretty hopeful and making great strides in all kinds of therapies to slow the progression of Alzheimer's. The best thing to fight it really is early detection. Unfortunately this is around the time when the diagnosed and family are in denial, which does the most harm.

Doubt the hat is effective plus who wants to be seen in public looking like the spastic, retarded kid who was forced to wear the cheap football helmet his parents bought at Montgomery Ward? Isn't this also akin to incontinent people wearing the diaper on the outside of their garments? All that does it makes the urine jello easier to get to, especially if you suffer from Alzheimers and can't recall why you're wearing diapers in the first place and the helmet seems to compliment the adult Pamper.

That would be great if the hat worked i also heard the drug enbrel that they use for pain of arthritis when they give you a shot in the spine helps Dimentia my Mom was just diagnosed with Dimentia so im going to try the Enbrel to see if there is anything to what they say about it. Iwill get back on here after i see if it works or not on my Mom and Update.

Early detection? Please! My father was detected early, we were trying to be tough and proactive, put on the "perfect" medical blend of scripts and diet....the best there is out there. LOL. It has done nothing for him. The only thing early detection has done is get him labled and recognized but the insurance and financial communities as at risk..........my poor mother can get no help from any one. Early dectection....we should have gone to the bank first!

I'm dealing with taking care of my mother-in-law alzhimer's, demetia as well as blindness & deaf. It's hard for me to cope with sometimes. If there were a hat that took care of a disease like this. Just ask what other ailments does the person(people) family have to deal with. The disease doesn't just effect the person with the ailment but it also effects the family as well. I mean until she was diagnosed I was working but I can't even leave her alone anymore. I can't get any help in my area to help me get back to work. So what am I suppoed to do but be here with her & not be finacially stable. There's sacrafices we all make.

I am very very interested but need to know if when wearing this hat to bed at night, is there any danger of accidentally sleeping on some of the extending parts and cutting off cranial circulation of some sort, or exposure to electrical shock.

Keep up the good work and hopefully someone will come up with a pillow with holes in it to take care of this problem.

Don't let those who ridicule this hat prevent you from coming up with further ideas as this is a serious problem confronting a large majority of the elderly.
