Protein 2Go

I tried switching to a fruit flavored protein supplement a few months back, only to be disappointed with the taste (and to subsequently return to my chocolate flavored protein shakes). Because whey is a derivative of milk, many whey protein shakes have a dairy, almost milk-soup sort of taste. Not a bad thing when mixed with a chocolate flavoring. Not a good thing when mixed with, say, lemon-lime flavoring.

However, more recently I tried the Protein 2Go from Designer Whey, a well-known protein brand found in GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, and Hannaford Stores. Unlike fruit flavored whey proteins I've tried in the past, Protein 2Go was much better tasting, in that it hinted less of milk and more of its intended fruit flavoring (I'm partial to orange/mango). And, in case you're just not a fan of fruit flavored drinks at all, they also offer a French Vanilla and a Chocolate flavor.

What initially drew me to this particular whey protein were the individual packs in which the protein servings were apportioned. Because my work schedule can sometimes be quite erratic (I work in film and television), it's always smart to have something healthy at the ready. Using the Protein 2Go serving packets, I'm able to essentially bring a protein shake with me, only I don't have to carry around a pre-mixed bottle of it all day (and, in most cases, have it be warm by the time I get around to drinking it). Whenever I'm ready to have a protein shake, I open up the small package that looks like a slightly larger version of the packets that Fruit Roll-Ups come in, and pour the contents into a bottled water. From there, I only have to give it a few shakes of the wrist (no blender involved ... also a bonus) and it's well mixed.

The only downside of Protein 2Go is related to its protein content per serving. As a guy who works out regularly, I need quite a bit of protein in my daily diet, which is why the 10g found in a serving of Protein 2Go just doesn't cut it. However, getting around this has been very easy, as it only required doubling up on the packets per serving. What's more, Protein 2Go really is geared more toward women than men, so the 10g of protein in each serving is actually perfect for women with active lifestyles.

All in all, I think this is a great protein product, certainly one worth trying out. As I mentioned earlier, orange/mango is very tasty, but pomegranate is also a good choice. But apart from flavor and its added antioxidant properties, the best part of the product is undoubtedly its convenience.
