China claims complete success in product safety initiatives

Just four months after declaring that it needed to "clean up" the tainted image of the Chinese food manufacturing industry, the government has an update for the world. It has now declared that the campaign to ensure safety in the Chinese food and product industries has been totally completed.

As Dennis Miller has been found of saying...I don't wanna get off on a rant here, but is it really feasible to "fix" that kind of problem in one of the world's largest manufacturing economies in just four months? I have serious doubts here -- do you?

Although there is a modicum of truth here (no doubt), China has much more maintenance work to do to ensure that food products and other non-food products remain safe when they are exported out of the country. 2007 was the year of the recall, and millions of consumers have not forgotten that and won't for some time.
