Salt addiction
Hi ... my name's Chris ... and I'm a salt addict.
I sometimes put salt on food before tasting if it needs it. I've, on more than one occasion, actually taken a swig or two from the pickle jar because the juice tastes so nice and salty. And, if I go to the movies and order a popcorn, I sometimes swipe the salt shaker from the counter and bring it into the theater with me to keep my popcorn seasoned until the very last kernel (just for the record, I always put it back on the counter when the movie ends).
My health is extremely important to me, which is why my salt issue is so anomalous. Work out? Yup, 5 days per week. Eat clean? Except for the salt, extremely so. Get enough sleep? At least 7 hours. Stressed? Not at all. Smoke? Nope. Drink alcohol excessively? Not since college, really. Have a family history of medical conditions? Fortunately, no.
It's just the salt.
That's why I found a recent study, on adapting to a low-salt diet , to be so interesting. Apparently, study participants who switched to a low-sodium diet were amenable to continuing to eat in that manner after they realized that food can still be tasty without so much of it. If you're just as interested in reading more about this study, follow this link and read on.

Your salt addiction could be your body craving minerals. Physical body is intellegent and it will crave what it needs. Only eat real salt, not the refined tablesalt which acts like a poison. There are natural salts that are low in sodium and high in nessesary minerals required for balanced health. Give it a try....

I too am addicted to salt. I blame my mother for this, who was an addict long before my birth! I was a finicky eater as a child, and so she got me "hooked" by adding salt. But I am an otherwise healthy person. I'm a vegetarian, I exercise, and I drink moderately. I've tried to wean myself from the salt, but it really takes the joy out of eating the food. I don't "love food" like other people, so when I do eat I am very picky.
Because we share this addiction, my mom once told me a story from India about a king and his 3 daughters. He asked each of his daughters to show him how much they loved him by bringing him a gift. One daughter brought gold, another daughter brought jewels, and the last daughter brought salt. The king was offended and upset by the last daughter's gift. After all, it was just salt and nothing expensive. So the next meal served to the king was without any salt. The king became upset at how disgusting the meal was. The daughter explained to him, that you can live life without gold and jewels...but not without salt, and that makes it more precious than the other gifts.
Nonetheless, I am going to give this "less salt" experiment another shot!
