Heal your brain with these six boosters
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
We all know 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week does the body good. Add these steps to your 30-minute routine, and Michael F. Roizen, MD, says you'll keep your brain young.
- Eat Indian. Each week, eat six curry dishes or six teaspoons of dark mustard, or a combination of the two, and you may lower your Alzheimer's risk.
- Teach. You're more likely to retain information if you explain it to someone else.
- Go Tomatoes. Take in 10 tablespoons of tomato sauce (with olive oil and no added sugar). Do this every week and your brain will thank you.
- Laugh. Laughter really is good medicine. It's good enough to improve memory, in fact.
- Drink Coffee. More help on the Alzheimer's front. No cream or sugar allowed.
- Go Fish. Make it fish with low toxins, three to four times per week, or take molecularly distilled fish oil each day.

hey kid..i think they're saying no cream and sugar for caloric reasons...nothing that's really germane to the topic of memory boosting. Have that cream and sugar if ya like man!

Gee, if coffee helps boost the brain, I should be a genius after all I drank so far this morning.

"Most" fish are not "high" in mercury. Actually, "some" fish contain some mercury at various levels. Fish is very very healthful and compared to commercially grown beef, chicken and pork, contains far fewer and less chemicals. Example: Commercially grown salmon usually contains more mercury than wild salmon. A hysteria has been created toward fish and other foods. This is usually the result of business interest's influence combined with public ignorance.

You apparently do no live on the Texas Gulf Coast oil refinery region. Anyone who eats fish from the water around Houston is living in a fool's paradise.

You'll still die at 78 (maybe sooner), but you'll remember it.

To that I would add...
DON'T USE DRUGS! Marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, heroin and crack are DEADLY, ADDICTIVE TOXINS.
That garbage will KILL YOUR BRAIN, then KILL YOU.

hey david, dont forget cigarettes. they are just as bad as the rest you listed, perhaps worse because they are legal to have under any circumstance as long as you are 18 or over.

Marijuana is not as bad as people think, it's been proven that marijuana is actually good for u, it prevents Glacoma, certain types of lung cancer, is also good in reducing pain, and it's good to have when you're feeling nauseous

The ingredient in mustard is turmeric or curcumin...can be taken once a day...no need to ingest that much mustard. Ugh!

Hey everyone, Happy New Year :) I just do it the easy way and say..."everything I eat or drink is good for me!" This way I am covered no matter what I decide to eat or drink! Mind over matter is a wonderful thing!

this is a response to the person who said fish was high in mercury. if you soak the fish in milk it will get most of the mercury out of the fish. then rinse off with cold water not directly touching the fish then prepare it any way you like it and it should be fine.

# 16, I have never heard of soaking fish in milk, then wasing it. Can you tell me, what the milk does? I am really interested, because, I am a fish eater, from way back. I grew up just outside San Francisco, My parents, loved to go to Fisherman's Wharf, and so did I!! Now, I live in Maryland, and their isn't any better blue crabs, fried soft shell shell, and most of the other things, that come out of the water. But, I will not touch raw fish, (sushi) Nasty!I tried it, once. Never again.

All good advice..but..my parents are both 86..they hated fish (and I don't include fish sticks as food), have smoked since they were 14 (no laws back in the good old days), never exercised, very seldom laughed, drank 5 gallons of coffee every day, did not drink alcohol (unless you count Listerine which is about 80 proof). But my Mom is dying of Alzheimers - slow painful death for the past 12 years. Doesn't remember any of her 6 children or husband (but that's probably a good thing). Good old Dad-toothless in a nursing home-apparently still has brain matter. Eating good and living well is common sense and we all have a fraction of that...Really Really
