10 Tips for finding your perfect diet
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Nutrition & Supplements
It won't be long until the new year arrives, and that means many of us will be setting new resolutions for ourselves. Many people will include a diet among those, but because there dozens upon dozens, how do you even begin to choose one? Here's a great article from WebMD which outlines 10 tips for finding the perfect regimen that suits you the best. Not all diets work. This is no news flash, but the reason may not be due to its effectiveness, but whether or not it is the right one for you. To begin, look for a diet that you know you can stick with. As the article says, "The best weight loss plan is one you can keep up." It needs to be healthy and sustainable. Look for a diet that includes exercise, one that's backed by a professional, doesn't include too many supplements, and of course is scientifically sound.
It needs to match your schedule and eating style. Even better, your perfect diet may need to be family-friendly so everyone can take advantage of it. There are some other factors to consider, but if you ask yourself "Can I do this every day?" and the answer is yes, then you may have found a diet you can live with!

I really don't think people should follow a certain diet. I think people should just NOT eat junk or processed food. No white stuff like white bread, rice, potatoes....Just go for lean stuff, fruits, veggies, grains, and sometimes cheating. Cut out red meat and take supplements everyday and exercise. Go easy on the portions. That will work in the long run. Diets just seem like so much work.

Even eating white foods (lord knows I love pasta!) doesn't matter, as long as you're active... and that's what this article conveniently glosses over: exercise and not taking weight loss supplements aren't accessories to diets, they are literally all one needs- doing those two things will make you far healthier than including a diet to the regimen. Diets are garbage, and yo-yo dieting is genuinely more dangerous in the long run than simply keeping the weight on and exercising.
Even if one eats junk food, doing it in moderation won't have any adverse effects as long as they exercise a minimum of an hour to an hour a half a week, and two if they can do it. I suppose if they kept things that simple, though, the 4 billion dollar diet industry wouldn't be too happy.

I agree with Vishaal. I'm a Vegetarian, so I stick to just veggies and fruits. You should definitely also try to avoid drinking juices, I call them empty calories. I'll cheat every other blue moon lol. Make sure to excercise daily, even if its just lifting some weights for an hour.

I agree. Just eating right, decreasing your portions and getting exercise are the things that will help you lose weight in the long run. But what if you're someone like me who has a hard time digesting fruits and vegies. What then? Any advice?

any diet that cuts a certain food group out should not be the diet for anymore (unless of course its for health reasons). Carbs are not the enemy, they give us energy. Its your brain telling your hand to shovel more and more into your mouth that is the problem! The most effective LIFESTYLE CHANGE I have ever used is weightwatchers. People always look at diets as temporary, but to keep weight off, it needs to be a lifetime commitment, and that is what weightwatchers teaches. Losing weight is not hard, its the maintenance! Check it out if you want to start your new year off right!

I think the author (Adams Briscoe) hit the nail on the head with this one. It makes perfect sense that you have to find a way of eating that you can stick with. Otherwise, all diets will fail. I'm sure, however, that a lot of us have a certain food we just can't resist, but we cannot beat ourselves up over it. If I'm craving something so badly, I learned to just eat it and get it over with, or I'd still be craving it two weeks down the road until I do. I think that's where a lot of people get stuck. They feel they have busted their diet and give up and start binging, thinking they will start over later. There's no starting over, because you go around in circles. I think just determining to eat more healthy in general, for life, seems to be the best way to attain long-term diet success.

I was up to almost 200#, and my diabetes was out of control. One time I ended up in a diabetic coma. My doctor suggested I see a dietitionist. She helped me figure out the right diet for my diabetes, and I started losing weight. Im doing it slowly, and have lost 72#! I feel so much better not to mention I look better! My major problem was I like sweets too much, and I was eating way too big portions. I think us Americans eat way too much food. I didnt feel starved at all. I felt wonderful.
I cut out junk food, ate mostly diet dinners (I know this would be hard in a family, but Im single). I started walking, riding my horse, and bike riding. Theyre all things I enjoy anyway, so its not a chore to do them.

My biggest issue has always been curbing my crabings for carbs and sugar. It isnt that I dont know what diet to go on, it isnt that I can't start and get into a good groove, it is staying on the diet that is the problem. I finally found something that keeps me on my diet by curbing my cravings, suppressing my appetite. I also have tremendous energy! I am following a plan with The Better Health package. I found it at http://www.losemyweight2008.com
the plan and the supplements are amazing and ALL NATURAL! No ephedra, safe and my doctor approved it for me to take. Completely amazing! I have lost over 30 pounds since September and look the best I have in my life. So it isnt a diet, we can all stay on a diet, but if you are like me and cant control the sugar highs and lows and need some help to keep the cravings suppressed, take a look at the site and the supplements.
