Matt Damon shapes up in '08
People Magazine's 2007 Sexiest Man Alive Matt Damon has big plans for 2008 when he pushes his body to new limits. It all starts with trainer Robert Severiano who will help mold Damon into lean, mean proportions for his role in the movie Imperial Life in Emerald City, which begins filming in early 2008. Then Damon will purposely plump up for a part in The Informant. He'll play a heavy-set guy in this film so he plans to stop training midway through the first movie so he's out of shape for the second.
I'm not sure I'd want a job that required regular body morphing. Even though the stars who succumb to this job requirement receive a hefty paycheck in exchange for their yo-yo endeavors, it seems a pretty unhealthy practice. And a difficult one too. I have a hard enough time maintaining one weight all the time. To jump up and down and all around in body weight is more of a challenge than I'm willing to accept. How about you? For a pretty penny, would you allow your weight to bounce around?

I think gaining weight for a role is best done healthily, ie not with burgers and pizza. I don't think this is a good idea to do all the time for actors, but once for a role that is just too good to pass is okay...Rene did it twice, and I think that's about enough...no more than twice.

Back in the early 80's Robert deniro fattened up for his role in the untouchables. He almost immediately dropped all the weight he gained after the movie wrapped, the difference between the average guy and a movie star is that they have someone monitoring them and helping them gain the weight in a healthy way so they can recover their original size once the movie finishes filming.

The difference is most movie stars are in shape before they gain the weight and have the mind set to go back to that weight immediately after..They have the resources to them to have professional trainers come and monitor them along with professional chefs making their food, which makes dieting a no brainer when all you have to do is show up at the dinner table and your trainer is waiting for you at your home gym...So if the money is right, for a couple of months gain 30 lbs.. They will lose it in less time than it took them to gain it..

Deniro also gained 60lbs to film the ending scenes of "Raging Bull" as the aging Jake LaMotta in the Comedy Club sequences. I believe he mentioned that it was a very dangerous thing to do. Matt Damon is going to have to really work his butt off to lose that weight. Being monitored is one thing, but we are all different, and it's very dangerous to go from one extreme to another, than back again.

I'd rather flip the projects so I end up being in great shape.

Please tell John that Deniro fattened up for Raging Bull.
He gained 60lbs to be exact, and lost it to film his next feature. What Matt Damon is doing is, whether he is being monitored, a very unhealthy thing to do.
