For many of us, going outside in the winter time happens on an as needed basis. I'll admit that putting on my own outerwear and two sets of boots, snow pants, hats, mittens, and gloves on my two little ones can be a daunting obstacle between me and the outdoors, but outdoor play is important for everyone.

Getting out of the house and reconnecting with nature can reduce stress, build fitness, and give your child necessary unstructured time to play and explore his or her world -- even in the winter months. Green Hour, sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation is a website that encourages outdoor exploration. Take a minute to visit it, and be sure to use their Nature Find link, which locates outdoor recreation locales in your area.
