Ways to live with lactose intolerance
Categories: Nutrition & Supplements
If you or someone you know has lactose intolerance, what do you do to eat as little dairy as possible and still find those tasty dairy dishes when you can? Simple -- find alternatives and eat / drink dairy products in moderation. But when it comes to lactose intolerant kids, this is a little more difficult since they are around dairy-consuming kids all day long in many cases. Want to find solutions? Try these on for "dairy" size:
- Get kids used to cheese and yogurt -- these are easier to digest than other dairy products
- Get kids hooked on lactose-free or lactose-reduced milk
- Get kids used to eating dairy products along with non-dairy foods (this may help ease digestion)
- Instead of milk, get calcium into that child's body using calcium-fortified juices, broccoli, beans, tofu and soy milk (yes, some kids eat tofu if you can believe that)

I am lactose intolerant. There are ways around it so you can live without the fear of getting sick. You must find alternative food sources that make you happy and don't make you sick. I found an ice cream product that makes me feel like I am normal. It's called Laloo's Goat Milk Ice Cream. Goat milk, while it is still a milk, has different make up than cow milk. It has smaller proteins which help humans digest it. Laloos (www.laloos.com) has a bunch of tasty flavors and it doesn't make my stomach hurt. Another added benefit is that it is healthier (fat and calorie content lower) than traditional cow ice cream products. So just because you are LI, doesn't mean you can't eat healthier and enjoy yummy foods.
