Singer Dan Fogelberg dies of prostate cancer
"Leader of the Band" soft-rock singer and songwriter Dan Fogelberg died Sunday at his home in Maine after battling advanced prostate cancer since 2004. He was 56."Dan left us this morning at 6 a.m. He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife, Jean, at his side. His strength, dignity and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."
Many, many men get prostate cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer death worldwide. But it's unusual for someone so young to develop and die from the disease -- eight out of 10 men diagnosed with prostate cancer are older than 65. But it does happen. So, guys, take notice and make sure you follow these life-saving steps.
- Get tested beginning at age 50, or 40 if you are at high-risk.
- Get control of your diet. A low-fat diet is key.
- Exercise.
- Don't smoke.
Now, more than ever, it's clear that cancer can be caused by lifestyle, namely a poor diet and lack of exercise. So, do your part now, before it's too late.

I will surely miss Dan's voice in the music world. He was a big part of my early years and has always been one of the most romantic and down-to-earth singer/song writers we've ever known. Angles will be listening to him sing tonight.

Hey Dan - you don't know it but your songs put me through college! About 75% of my songs playing music in the summer at the Royal Gorge, Canon City, Co were yours. Everybody loved them and I tried my best to do you justice. RIP in heaven buddy - hope to jam with ya someday!

As a prostate cancer survivor, I know full well the issues that Dan Fogelberg faced. He was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer around age 52. I was diagnosed at age 47 quite by accident. However, early diagnosis saved my life. Today, as a motivational speaker, I often have the opportunity to talk to men about the importance of being checked early and often. For men facing the choices of treatment associated with prostate cancer, feel free to make contact as I had the DaVinci surgery with no complications. http://www.chuckgallagher.com

It is always, always Christmas time when I think of Mr. Folelberg. I find his music so comforting this time of year more than any other artist...seriously. Just knowing he's gone is sad for all, especially his loving family. Thank you Dan for the wonderful memories within my heart and mind. I will pray for peace for the family.
