Eat broccoli three times a month -- that's it!

How do you feel about Broccoli? Love it or hate it, I think we can all manage to choke it down three times a month, right? And according to recent studies, eating broccoli three times a month is all it takes to reap the benefits of the crunchy green vegetable -- if you do, you'll significantly reduce your risk of cancer.
Yes, you read that right -- three times a month, not three times a week, or three times a day -- though I'm sure eating fresh veggies as often as possible can't hurt either. Surely you can manage three times a month? But it's important to note that raw veggies are noted to be better for you than cooked ones in this study. Still, it's an easy task.

Ugh. This kind of "research" bugs me. Sure, 3 times a month may be fine for some who are eating relatively healthy anyway, but what about the one who is going home and downing a 12 pack of beer at night? Just an example...
I like broccoli, and I have been eating more because it is one of the more well-rounded vegetables in terms of nutritional punch. I eat a small handful of raw broccoli 5 days a week, plus more cooked. I am glad they pointed out that raw is better, though. Very evident in the research I have done.
Martha, do you have a link to the research? :) I'd like to read more...
Thanks!

I agree with you -- eating broccoli three times a month is not really adequate if you ask me, but if you're someone who only gets veggies from the onions on your cheeseburger, I guess any little bit can help, right ?

Broccoli is a Goitrogen. In other words it tends to inhibit your body's ability to use iodine. Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, Cauliflower, Mustard, Rutabaga, Turnips, Millet, Peaches, Radishes, Soybean and soy products, including tofu Spinach, & Strawberries are also listed as goitrogens.
Iodine is an important element. Most of us are not getting enough. Do the research.
