Can lipo remove dangerous belly fat?
Excess belly fat is a particularly dangerous risk factor for future health problems. So, if having a big belly is a bad thing (health-wise, at least) couldn't you just reduce your risk by having liposuction? No, say the experts. Liposuction removes subcutaneous fat that lives just under your skin. The fat that can seriously harm your health actually resides under the abdominal wall, next to your internal organs.Reducing the number of calories you eat and increasing the number your burn is still the best way to get rid of that pesky abdominal fat.

Great post, Bethany. I work with a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in liposuction in Connecticut http://www.implasticsurgery.com, and personally I'm all for posts, articles, etc. that educate people about liposuction. So many seem to view it as a way to drop the pounds, rather than as a procedure to remove small pockets of diet-resistant fat. Prospective patients don't seem to "get" that they need to not only already be living a healthy lifestyle prior to the body sculpting procedure, but also maintain it afterwards. Basically, although the problem fat cells have been removed, if you don't continue to eat right and exercise regularly the fat cells that remain will enlarge (not multiply in numbers, but in size). I think part of the problem is that lipo is known by so many things... lipo, liposuction, liposculpture, suction lipectomy. And then there are all of the various techniques. So, I guess some patients think, well there must be a version of lipo where I don't have to be healthy. There isn't. It's surgery. You've got to be healthy.
