How to snack healthy at the mall (it's not easy!)

Shopping is exhausting! And it can be a good workout, too. But shopping can also be a health hazard because of those darn Food Courts full of Cinnabons and pizza and chili-cheese fries filling the air with tantalizing smells and calling your name. So, in the interests of not adding "weight gain" to the list of why holiday shopping is so stressful, here are a few snacks to help keep you going in the healthiest ways possible:
  • Plain coffee, plus a little sugar and cream if you prefer, has less calories than a fancy mocha latte but is just as cozy and soothing
  • Fresh squeezed fruit juice has less calories than a shake or smoothie but can be just as rich and sweet
  • Whole grain pasta with marinara sauce will fill you up without too many calories or fat
  • Know what's low-cal at common fast food chains: i.e. the yogurt parfait at McDonald's, so you can order smart
And if all else fails, bring a bottle of water and a power bar with you to keep the hunger pangs and temptation at bay.
