Daily Fit Tip: Tis the season, tip your trainer
It's long been customary come holiday season to tip hairdressers, housekeepers, child care providers, and those trusty souls who deliver our mail. But with each passing year, it seems the tip recipient list grows and grows. So does the amount necessary to properly express gratitude.Dog walkers, spa attendants, elder-care workers, anyone who offers any kind of service is worthy of a tip. Fitness trainers included.
So what's an appropriate tip nowadays? I mean, we don't want to under-tip and insult someone. And we don't want to over-tip either.
Results of a Consumer Reports study reveal that housekeepers tend to get the biggest tips, ranging from $25 to $75 in cash or gifts. Childcare providers usually rake in $20 to $50 in cash or non-cash gifts. And fitness trainers: $10 to $50.
One guide for determining tips for the service people in our lives is to give them the equivalent of one week's pay. If your dog walker charges $75 per week, then tip $75.
I had a fitness trainer last year -- her name is Fitz! I realize now I didn't tip her. We did have her over for Christmas dinner and dessert, though. I hope this makes up for the oversight.
