Hollywood Muscle: Ryan Reynolds

Posted on Nov 26th 2007 8:54PM by Chris Sparling

Going from eternal frat boy Van Wilder to practically having the build of a younger Van Damme, Ryan Reynolds completely transformed his physique back in 2004 to be in vampire-slaying form for the film Blade Trinity. Several years later, Reynolds still maintains one of the most shredded physiques in Hollywood. So, what's his secret?

According to Reynolds himself, who was interviewed a while back by Men's Health Magazine, he credits his amazing physical transformation to some very simple, but effective fitness principles.

For one, he makes sure that he eats several small meals throughout the day, mostly consisting of lean protein sources and low-GI carbs. He also stops eating carbs altogether after 8pm, though he makes certain to consume protein (usually in the form of a shake) right up until he goes to bed. Insofar as his workout goes, to put on 20 pounds of muscle for Blade, he worked out two-to-three hours per day, six days a week. Workouts consisted of training one body part per day, but always started with between 500 to 1,000 sit-ups.

Though much slimmer now than he was while filming Blade, Reynolds still keeps his body fat at a staggeringly low 3%, something he credits mostly to diet. The results clearly speak for themselves.
