JFK pushed Americans to be fit

We know that obesity in our country is out of control, but I've always thought of it as a current event kind of issue. But then I read this article over at MSNBC, and it was really interesting. It details a new exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Calling JFK the "most influential" president when it came to physical fitness, the exhibit outlines many of the steps he took to get Americans out and exercising.

One quote that stuck with me was this one:

"The age of leisure and abundance can destroy vigor and muscle tone as effortlessly as it can gain time," Kennedy wrote.

It's a theory that health experts have discussed over and over again. Has the easy living of modern life made us soft? Even though obesity is a rampant problem of today, apparently the warning signs were present even during his presidency. Interesting article...what do you think?
