Never a dull moment with Bear Grylls. The star of Discovery Channel's Man vs. Wild and I spoke last week during a long interview in which he will be featured in an upcoming Celebrity Fitzness Report. Definitely 45 of the most interesting minutes in my life. I can't imagine anyone having more incredible tales.

Bear told me about visiting the Sahara Desert in Africa and enduring the extreme temperatures, highs of 130 and lows of 20 degrees ferenheit. What he didn't tell me is what I saw last night while watching his show. He was given a camel from some local tribesmen that he met on his journey, and showed how to skin it to make a blanket (which he slept with later that night). Fun! He also demonstrated how to remove the water reservoirs from the camels humps in order to drink. Tasty! But wait ...there's more!

Finally, after the camel was empty and the skin was removed, Bear was kind enough to provide us with one last lesson. Bear tells that sandstorms can be deadly in the desert with absolutely zero barriers for protection. And if you're stuck in this situation after cleaning out your camel, you can hide inside of it. Then Bear proceeded to crawl all the way inside of his camel and remain completely hidden for several minutes while the camels pulled away. I've never seen anything like it in my life.

So, of course my version of this story may sound a little smart-ass, but Bear is truly a brilliant guy. I can't believe anyone could know so much about so many different climates, locations, animals, insects and an amazing amount of survival skills. I traditionally watch half of his show with my eyes and ears covered, but when I do peek out from under my covers he's teaching me a ton. Man vs. Wild appears Friday nights at 9 p.m. on the Discovery Channel. And yes, if you get to see this episode, you'll also get to enjoy the Goat Testicle Buffet.
