The FDA said this past week that cancer patients undergoing traditional chemotherapy treatment should not be taking anti-anemia drugs unless they wanted to face the possibility of increased tumor growth and decreased survival possibilities.

Drugs such as Procrit, Epogen and Aranesp are front and center here, as they collectively generate about $10 billion in annual revenues.

Although these drugs are engineered to make more red blood cells in the body, which can -- according to experts -- cause problems with certain cancer cases for those with advanced breast, head and neck, lymphoid and non-small cell lung cancer.
