Cold water diet?
Categories: Celebs & Entertainment
Thumbing through a very tabloid-ish magazine the other day, I came across an article promising to reveal the secret behind Mel B's weight loss. Here's the deal: Ex-Spice Girl Mel gave birth a mere few months ago to Eddie Murphy's baby, got married to someone else a short while later and is now competing on Dancing with the Stars looking very fit and in-shape.
So how did she do it? She claims to hate 'dieting', and swears that drinking cold water gave her the body of her dreams, because your body burns calories trying to warm the water up. This sounds a bit hokey if you ask me. Celebrity Diet Doctor recently looked into her so-called diet trick, and he insists that while theoretically, this extra calorie burn does happen when you have your water ice-cold, it would only really lead to a 2 or 3 pound weight loss per year at best.
Still, drinking water is important, so if you want to drink it ice-cold, go for it. However, I will stick to water at a room temperature in the interest of my sensitive teeth.

Ya it's bogus. I read about it somewhere, they did the math and I think a gallon of cold water burned about 80 calories. You can do the math yourself, it's just a chemistry equation to calculate how many calories it takes to heat a gallon of water at 40 degrees to body temperature 98 degrees.

google "cold water diet" and read the howstuffworks article. It explains it in detail, but basically every 16 ounce of 37 degree water will burn 17 calories. If you drink a gallon of cold water a day you'll burn off 140 calories, roughly equivalent to running or walking a mile.
So it can't hurt to drink cold water but you better make sure you drink A LOT of water!

The diet really works! I've been drinking water even at room temperature and in the space of about 3 weeks dropped from 12st11 to 12st3 it really is unbelievable, it's due to the constant flushing or "detoxing" and body working to heat up the water.
