Old meds: When in doubt, mix with kitty litter and throw them out
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss
When you have just a few pills left in the bottom of a prescription bottle, what do you do? It used to be common advice to flush unused medications down the toilet, but that's no longer considered a safe or environmentally sound practice. And because abuse of prescription pain killers is on the rise, health experts no longer think that hanging on to them or just throwing them in the trash is a good idea either.
Instead, they have new and interesting tactic. When you're done with your medications, make them too yucky for any child, pet, or adult to even consider trying if they may find themselves curious or tempted. Mix them with your kitty litter, coffee grounds, or even sawdust...anything that will make them unpalatable.
Experts agree this is a band-aid approach that won't fix the larger issues surrounding prescription meds, but they're hoping it will help prevent some cases of misuse. What do you think?
