Miss England ordered to fatten up

At a size 6 and and a slim 126 lbs, Miss England Georgia Horsley, has a figure that many would give their left arm for. But that's not good enough for the organizers of the Miss World Competition. They want her to change her weight. Yet while many would expect that she's under pressure to slim down, it's quite the opposite -- she's been asked to add a few pounds onto her frame, since it's hoped that Miss World will have a more curves than your average model this year.

I think this is pretty amazing -- it's not very often that someone is asked to bulk up for a beauty contest. I have my fingers crossed that this will signify a deeper change in the fashion world -- from stick-thin, heroin chic fashion models to healthy, curvy role models. What do you think?

That's very encouraging. I'll all about focusing on health and being fit instead of only on the scale or being skinny. Wouldn't it be great if they were to add fitness competitions into the beauty contests? Instead of a talent competition have a them demonstrate how fit they are....not as intense as the fitness model competitions, but something physical instead of only cosmetic.

Seriously, is this a healthy message either?

Secondly, I'm all for curves so long as they aren't codeword for fat!

I see these models who are stick thin and heroine like but when I look around at every day women I see more fat people than I do skinny. I see fat women running around with their fat kids. So I don't see how these models are impacting every day women.

I actually get really irritated with the way people confuse 'curves' with 'fat'. A proper curvy figure refers more to the proportions of your hips and bust in terms of bone size- it doesn't mean you have big pockets of fat! I'm curvy and very slim- my hips are a lot bigger than my waist and there is no fat on either- and I have a bust, not weird fleshy mounds- and to be honest most plump people I know are not what you'd call curvy but are - well, sort of dumpy and fat and woul happily say so themselves!

126 pounds??? Unless she is 6'5", that is NOT TOO SKINNY. I don't think "they" should be able to order anyone to do anything, but if she's going to bulk up she needs to do it by lifting weights, not eating more.
Packing on extra fat is never healthy, and isn't good for anyone.
