Pregnant smokers plentiful in West Virginia

It's almost sickening to hear that more than 25 percent of pregnant women in the state of West Virginia actually smoked while pregnant in 2006, but that is precisely what the state's Department of Health and Human Services is now saying.

The actual smoking rate for pregnant women in West Virginia was 27.3 percent -- the highest in the nation in 2006. The rate had hovered in the area of 25 percent for almost a decade, but spiked a bit last year.

Every child should have the chance to be developed and be born healthy with a minimum of chemical exposure and a maximum of healthy habits from the mother, but this just isn't happening in West Virginia when a quarter of those born have horribly irresponsible mothers in regards to healthy pregnancies.
