Happiness is one of the most sought-after, yet still so elusive things in our modern world. We spend our lives searching for it. We try to buy, try to steal it, promise that we'll have it at last -- if only we could fit into the skinny jeans, afford that fancy house or land that dream job. But maybe we should change the way we think about happiness.
Happiness is a decision, according to this blog post. It's not something that comes to you; it's a choice you make for yourself. That's not to say it comes naturally -- rather, it's a skill you learn, like riding a bike. And it's something you have to work on every day.

I do think we have some control over our thought processes. For instance, if we choose to dwell on the bad stuff longer than we should it will bring us down. There's a lot to be said about creative visualization and "accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative".
My little one has had a really bad time with health issues and we even got the news she has MRSA on the SAME DAY that all the stuff was out about the death from the deadly infection. It threw me for a loop and I've had to perform the balancing act of dealing with the issue while not letting it take over my thoughts.

This is so true, just like decide to have a bad attitude or a cup of coffee, a latte, or a bottle of water.
I attended a luncheon celebrating my cousin's Godmother who turned 103 years old. I asked her what her secret was to longevity was. She said to not worry about things and keep it moving. I was looking for a long drawn out list. She was short and sweet with her answer.
We have to decide to be happy, and take life as it comes. To worry or contemplate how bad the next moment or situation will be is not going to help it one bit. Anxious thoughts have never helped the solution to the problem.
Here in California, I recieved an e-from a noted motivational speaker whose house is threatened by the fires. As he was putting together a box of belongings that he had to quickly take with him, he made a very interesting statement: He said it is our resposibility, not our fault. We have to take responsibility for the attitude at the moment. I can imagine what must be going through his mind as he has to leave his house with no guarntee that the structure will be there when he comes back.
We can make the best of the situation or act like we have no control and panic. That statement speaks volumes on how we handle life. We have to choose to react to events in a positive manner. The opposite reaction will result in an negative outcome.
