Prada breaks free of the skinny model mold

Yay for Prada! In the world of freakishly-thin models (heck, there's even a Halloween costume for it!) Prada, one of the biggest and most influential fashion houses in the world, has made a bold move: Miuccia Prada chose a curvier mannequin to showcase a new sweater on the runway in Milan and a curvier model to actually walk the runway during a recent show.

It's pretty sad when one mannequin and one model are such a big deal, but although it may be small it's a definite step in the right direction.

I think more curvier and healthier models are totally needed in our fashion industry. They are more of the norm than the skinny models, of whom the average person in no way looks like. We have dealt a harsh blow to the more plus size person and we need to see the beauty in all shapes and sizes.

This is completely disgusting and ridiculous. Nobody wants to see a nasty ugly fat THING walk down anything, much less a runway. REAL models deserve respect for trying so hard to be the thin beautiful image of perfection. This woman deserves nothing but ridicule. Good thing it WONT last.

The fourth comment by Nicole -- pure hatred.. Nicole dont be mad because you're insecure. You're one of those stupid niieve people that feel that perfection is sickly looking. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but its no where near perfect to weigh the same size as a 10 year old. You are a prime example of ignorance. She is not a "fat THING" she is a real woman because real women have curves.

I think I know why they use such skinny models. The runways are so shoddily built that a normal girl's liable to fall through.

yes!!! lets hope the other designers finally catch on! when the average sized woman today is size 12 perpetuating the toothpick models on the runways is just crazy! we wonder why so many girls drink,smoke take drugs they are trying to stay thin and emulate what they see on tv and in movies/magazines. its best to be healthy not skinny! in the long run your health must come first! just think if men were made to feel the pressure of looking like brad pitt or george clooney constantly maybe theyd know how it feels to be put under the magnifying glass! oh thats right men wont buy into or put up with that crap!! lesson learned?....

#4 Nicole, what gibberish you speak! There is nothing "respectful" about an anorexic bone that throws up so she can be a "model"! They should be ASHAMED for presenting themselves as "healthy" role models for young girls, and they should look healthy, not as if they just stepped out of a coffin! Nicole, go chew on a piece of parsley!

In response to nicole's statement .. do you even know who the model they chose is .... Its lara stone, she is nowhere near as you so childishly stated "nasty, fat, and ugly". She not obese, she is real. Go and google her. Models like her and Keeley Hazell are what models should be like, they are curvy as in they have hips .. you know those things right below your waist that make you look like oh i don't know a woman. they look like women, like the kind that eat healthy and eat what they want. I know nothing about you, but i have a hunch that you might feel insecure about yourself, or something of the kind. But let me tell you something spewing hate is not going to do anything but give you a headache. And next time if you want to "state your beliefs" on a matter so badly, at least do it eloquently because your comment lacked style and was utterly distasteful. And next time for everybodies sake, be more informed.

Um, nowhere in this article does it say that they are using an "overweight" model. They use the word "curvy". The girl they used is a supermodel in England, a size 8. That doesn't sound overweight to me, sounds healthy. Do some research people before writing in your hateful comments.

Though I applaude Prada for making such a decision, perhaps I am missing something, because I don't see how this model looks different from any other that I've seen. And in response to some of the ugly comments left about this model being a "fat ugly thing", please keep in mind that many American women would be thrilled to be as "fat" as a size eight. I am nine months pregnant and look fondly back on my size eight days, and hope to be there again soon.

Noemí Amoretti is this model's name. She is the Supermodel of the Year (2007) so she's definitely not going away. She's absolutely beautiful, not fat or think. It's a step in the right direction. I certainly don't want any high fashion clothes made to fit a 10 year old. I have my own natural 36DD and I'm not giving them up to look like a sunken chested runway model.
