"Fat shots" at a clinic near you: Are they a good idea?
Categories: Reviews & Products
Anti-fat shots, better known as lipo-dissolve in most cases, are growing in popularity around the country -- but people may be making unsafe assumptions about both the risks and the results. In a strange circumstance of loopholes people are being prescribed and given these injections despite the fact that the FDA has not approved any injections for the purpose of dissolving fat. Experts have serious questions about things like where does the fat go? Is it really being flushed completely out of the body or just moved elsewhere (i.e. increasing cardiovascular risks)?Of course there are also those out there who love this procedure and swear by it. Where do you fall? I'm not a big fan of cosmetic procedures anyway so it's no surprise I think people should wait until we know more.

To quote you--
"I'm not a big fan of cosmetic procedures anyway so it's no surprise I think people should wait until we know more."
Totally agree. And it's also no surprise that this procedure is happening without FDA approval. There will always be a market for quick fixes, unsafe and otherwise, and plenty of doctors who provide them.

I understand why you may be questioning something that's not fda approved. But does fda approval really make it safe? How many medications have been pulled off of the shelves years after they received fda approval only to find out that they are not safe? I agree that research needs to be done, but let's not judge a new procedure "unsafe" because someone hasn't spent millions of dollars on research for a procedure that is made up of two fda approved drugs, PCDC. People were using Botox for years before it ever gained fda approval. I went and researched lipodissolve before I decided to try it. I found that over 200,000 people have been treated world wide and there have been no severe side effects or any deaths related. Yes, there are some side effects and severe ones can result if you don't follow the post treatment instructions or if you go do this at a spa or to some untrained person. But, I found a medical practice that specializes in lipodissolve that is lead by board certified doctors and plastic surgeons. I've now lost 3.5 inches around my waist and am ready for more. I didn't have anything horrific happen to me. The point is, do your research if you are unsure about a new procedure and go to an expert who can tell you what to expect and what side effects you may have.

People should definitely wait until more is known. But you know, when we think we know everything, something will pop up. Just because the FDA approves something, doesn't mean they know EVERYTHING about it.
